"Yet another characteristic of Petra Egg's working method is using ordinary, cheap, even 'trashy' everyday materials, things found in any household, and also an apparently equally simple-looking (and as a result almost provocative) yet always very profoundly artistic re-using and staging. The video series Plastik for instance features individual colourful plastic bags imprinted with an advertising slogan. Initially scrunched up into a fist-size ball each bag unravels and untangles itself in slow motion, twisting about itself with a light crunching and rustling noise, filling out from the inside (which is almost very weird to witness), growing, taking on surprising shapes, virtually generating itself as its own living, moving sculpture."
